Mandatory Funding for the NHSC Expires Dec. 31!

Advocate, We Need Your Help Again TODAY: Call Your Members of Congress to Ask Them to Protect National Health Service Corps Funding!

ACU would like to thank every advocate who reached out last week to ask their members of Congress to reauthorize the NHSC program before mandatory funding for the Corps expires on Dec. 31, but we need to make a full-court press today!

Over this past weekend, Congress reached a tentative agreement on a health package that includes funding for the NHSC, Community Health Centers, and Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education programs. However, negotiations are still ongoing, and the NHSC’s funding amount will likely be determined today or tomorrow.

With that said, we need you to CALL your U.S. Senators and House Representative TODAY, Dec. 16, and urge them to reauthorize the NHSC program with $950 million in mandatory funding over the next three years.

Whatever deal is made now will determine NHSC’s future for the next one or two years!

If you’re interested, here are additional Talking Points:

  • Thank you for your support in efforts to alleviate health workforce shortages in underserved areas.
  • I ask that you continue to build upon these efforts by supporting the Bipartisan Primary Care and Health Workforce Act, which reauthorizes the NHSC program with $950 million in mandatory funding per year for the next three years.
  • This bill has bipartisan backing, reflecting a shared commitment to address our country’s healthcare workforce needs. Expanding funding for the NHSC is essential for recruiting and retaining healthcare professionals who work in our state’s health centers and Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs).
  • In closing, I ask once again, please include $950 million in mandatory funding over the next three years for the NHSC in any year-end funding package. This investment is vital to address workforce shortages and support communities in need.
