Thank You for Your Advocacy to Strengthen the National Health Service Corps!

We are so pleased to share some wonderful news to help close out this very challenging year—after months of fierce advocacy led by ACU in support of the National Health Service Corps (NHSC), Congress just passed an omnibus funding bill which collectively included more than $1.06 billion in funding for the NHSC!
The funding in the FY21 Omnibus Bill breaks down as follows:
- Three-year extension to NHSC mandatory funding. Specifically, the NHSC will receive $310M for fiscal years 2021-2023—a total of $940M. This avoids the total loss of this funding the NHSC would have incurred had Congress failed to take action to extend mandatory funding.
- FY21 discretionary funding for the NHSC—a total for $120M, much of which is specifically earmarked to support clinicians working to address substance use disorder in underserved communities.
The passage of the omnibus bill and inclusion of the three-year funding extension will enable much needed stability and critical support for organizations and clinicians caring for the nation’s underserved—particularly those who depend on the NHSC for workforce recruitment and retention.
