We would like to thank ACU Advocates again for joining us on Capitol Hill last month to speak with legislators and staff about the vital need to preserve the National Health Service Corps (NHSC). The Association of Clinicians for the Underserved is leading the effort to strengthen the NHSC and push for its expansion to all underserved communities in the future. We need to save and expand the program this year: and to be successful, we still need your help!

ACU is tirelessly advocating, but the bottom line is that the voice of advocates and the healthcare workforce is the most essential part in this process – members of Congress and their staff need to continue hearing from you and visiting your health centers.

During this August recess, take advantage of the fact that Members of Congress are home until September. Invite Democrats and Republicans to tour your facilities so they understand how valuable your services are to the community and the importance of the NHSC, teaching health centers, and Nurse Corps programs.

Those key programs and health centers are at the core of ACU’s efforts to improve coverage and access to care, particularly when it comes to supporting underserved populations in accessing care and health equity. Finally, don’t forget to use media outlets and local op-eds to get your stories out to the public!

Don’t hesitate to contact us for assistance: for guidance on your advocacy efforts, please contact Jordan Marshall, ACU’s Deputy Director of Policy & Advocacy.

Remember:

NHSC Funding Ends In

Now is a critical time to support the effort to preserve and extend funding for the National Health Service Corps (NHSC)! We need your voice to urge legislators to support bipartisan initiatives to renew the NHSC’s funding. Become an ACU advocate today, keep up-to-date on what’s happening, take action, and ask your friends and colleagues to join us as well!
