A new study in JAMA Network Open has found that physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician associates each enhance different aspects of patient care quality at health centers. As health centers strive to make the most of limited budgets while providing the best care possible for all, the study underscores the value of strategic clinician hiring to address specific health challenges—as well as the essential contributions of differing clinicians as part of transdisciplinary care teams.

We’re thrilled to highlight this scholarship from study co-author Dr. Benjamin Oldfield, MD, MHS of Fair Haven Community Health Care and Yale School of Medicine, a Fellow of the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved, who joined another ACU member, Logan Stern, DNP, APRN, Q. Wilton Sun, and Dr. Howard Forman for the study.
