ACU is devastated to learn of the death of Roderick “Rod” Manifold, along with his wife and mother-in-law, in a car accident yesterday morning. Rod, the CEO of Central Virginia Health Services, was a perfect example of what it meant to be “for the underserved” and we will miss him greatly. He generously gave his time and talent to help others, and he was a terrific partner in every sense of the word. He helped educate policy-makers on the value of community-based care at all levels, including Congress and the Administration, and he did so without reservation or hesitation. Rod was an active ACU member who participated in our annual conferences in recent years. He was an optimistic, proactive visionary who will be sorely missed.

We extend our sympathies to his family, to the staff at Central Virginia Health Services, and to the thousands of families he helped over the course of his life and career. He was a true champion for the underserved.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28th at Fluvanna County High School, 1918 Thomas Jefferson Parkway in Palmyra at 2:00 pm. Family will greet visitors prior to the service from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. A second service will be held on Sunday, January 29th, at New Central Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia at 2pm, with interment following at Riverside Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made in Rod’s memory to Central Virginia Health Services.
