ACU is devastated to learn of the death of Roderick “Rod” Manifold, along with his wife and mother-in-law, in a car accident yesterday morning. Rod, the CEO of Central Virginia Health Services, was a perfect example of what it meant to be “for the underserved” and we will miss him greatly. He generously gave his time and talent to help others, and he was a terrific partner in every sense of the word. He helped educate policy-makers on the value of community-based care at all levels, including Congress and the Administration, and he did so without reservation or hesitation. Rod was an active ACU member who participated in our annual conferences in recent years. He was an optimistic, proactive visionary who will be sorely missed.

We extend our sympathies to his family, to the staff at Central Virginia Health Services, and to the thousands of families he helped over the course of his life and career. He was a true champion for the underserved.
