Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved

As an ACU member, you not only get free access to ACU’s official journal, The Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved (JHCPU), but you also have the opportunity to submit a general column for publication.  If you have ever wanted to showcase an aspect of the work you are doing, or to discuss a trend you have noticed in your discipline or the larger world of underserved health care, now is your opportunity!

As a benefit of being an ACU member, you are eligible to submit a brief abstract on timely issues in the delivery of health care for the underserved. The ACU Column is not intended to be a formal research article; it can be a commentary, a report or even an opinion piece from the field.  We are looking for serious reflections grounded in relevant scholarly literature on timely issues that you as Clinicians face every day.

The topics vary by issue, with the next issue focusing on Disparities. Abstracts can relate to any kind of underserved health care policy including: access to care, transdisciplinary care models, health information technology, best practices, unmet needs, quality improvement, and workforce issues, but it should reflect the overarching theme of the February Journal issue. At ACU, we understand and appreciate the power of personal stories from primary care settings. Our most successful columns are inspired by and go on to incorporate anecdotes and stories from the real world.

If you have an idea, please send an abstract of no more than 250 words to Craig Kennedy at ckennedy@clinicians.org. Authors whose abstract is accepted will be asked to develop a manuscript of approximately 2,500 words. You must be an ACU member to submit an abstract.

You are welcome to read previous ACU Columns online. We encourage joint authorship, particularly teams representing different disciplines.

The abstract submission deadline is September 15. We welcome your submission and look forward to hearing from you.
