National Health IT Week PartnerThis September, the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved (ACU) is joining approximately 200 public and private sector organizations to participate in the 7th Annual National Health IT Week (September 10-14, 2012).  National Health IT Week 2012 is the premier event offering all healthcare stakeholders an opportunity to unite under one banner, expressing the benefits that health information technology (HIT) brings to U.S. healthcare. “One Voice, One Vision.”

On Thursday, September 13, ACU will participate in the Capitol Hill Health Information Technology Showcase, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Room SH-902 in the Hart Senate Office Building. The Health IT Showcase offers Members, staff, and the invited public first-hand demonstrations of leading edge telehealth, chronic disease monitoring, EMR, and related health information technologies.

Comprehensive health care reform is not possible without system-wide adoption of health information technology, which improves the quality of healthcare delivery, increases patient safety, decreases medical errors, and strengthens the interaction between patients and healthcare providers. Healthcare providers who care for the underserved understand the benefits of health information technology for themselves and their patients and increasingly are adopting Meaningful Use compliant electronic health records.

Initiated in 2006 by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), National Health IT Week has emerged as a landmark occasion for using health IT as part of the overall solution to improve America’s healthcare as a bipartisan, federally led, market driven initiative. National Health IT Week 2012 participants—vendors, provider organizations, payers, pharmaceutical/biotech companies, government agencies, industry/professional associations, research foundations, and consumer protection groups— will work together to elevate national attention to the advantages of advancing health IT.
